continuing effects from Kimkins....

Ok...so I am trying to be positive, I'm trying to put kimkins behind me...but my hair is falling out by the handsful!!!! I have baby-fine thin-ish hair to begin with. I am terrified that I am going to end up looking like one of THOSE ladies with the REALLY thin hair, where my scalp will show glaringly through my few strands of hair. I know that there are those who have suffered MUCH worse effects than this and I am trying to take it all in stride...I really am...but my HAIR is falling out....more and more each day.
Another thing that is happening...and I have NO IDEA if it's related to the diet...but I'm putting it out here just in case anyone else is having this symptom....I am having "nerve twitches" on the left side of my face...you know...like when your eyelid just twitches on its own.....it's been happening for about a week. The sad thing is...I didn't do kimkins super strict for more than about 3 months....I'm worried

Vickie,

Please go see your doctor and bring with you some representation of how you were eating for those three months (ie. FitDay print outs with nutrient levels reports).

You'll want your doctor to test for nutrient deficiencies, thyroid function and hormones. It's expensive testing, but will help uncover where you need to start things to help your body heal.

Please keep your readers up-to-date with what happens, OK?

That's excellent advice. MAKE AN APPT with the DOCTOR TODAY.

Take your FitDay logs. Get tested. Post what info you get for those in the same boat.

All VLCD that lack nutrition and lead to superfast weight loss will affect hair loss. Kimkins is a VLCK with nutritional deficiences, hence, hair loss.

With good nutrition and, in some cases, doctor recommended or dietitian approved supplements (ask about biotin and omega 3 oil), it should start to fill in again.

Also, having thyroid problems can lead to thinning hair (I know, it happened to me), so get the TSH checked, ok?

I hope you get better soon and lose weight on a much healthier plan.

God bless,
The Princess

Oh, and write down ALL the symptoms you have felt on the diet and feel now, so that when you get to the Dr.'s office, you don't forget to mention them.

IT's easy, when nervous, to forget something.

Thanks so much for the advice. I have my medical coverage with the HMO from hell...but I will call and see about getting an appointment. Thanks again

I remember you from Kimkins. I have been "hiding" for 2 months, regained 25 pounds, and was going to get back into doing Kimkins to get it back off. Now I will be doing a healthier diet to lose more slowly. Just had to comment about the "twitching". After not doing Kimkins for 2 months, and eating lots of junk, I noticed that for over a week I had an almost constant twitching in one eyelid. Drove me crazy. It was a very fast twitch, so others couldn't see it unless they really looked for it. It's stopped now, and I never connected it to the diet. Very interesting! (countrygirl_roni) Roni...

Hi Roni..
I remember you from kimkins too. I'm so sorry that you're struggling with weight gain.
That's interesting about the twitch. I still don't know if it was connected to the diet but it's gone now. My hair isn't falling out as much...but I am slowly gaining weight and struggling to stay on any kind of plan since leaving kimkins. There's a bunch of us ex-kimkins people hanging out at Jimmy Moore's forum. It's a good place....how about joining us there?
